2016

The local municipality of Luster has purchased the spot. The Wittgenstein Foundation in Skjolden has been established. The house will be returned to its original site. New generations will be able to experience this unique working place of Wittgenstein.

1958

Wittgenstein’s house was moved to Skjolden. Here the house was re-erected with some modifications. The roof was moved 90 degrees, but otherwise the house remains in its original form and can easily be restored to its original design.

1914

The house was completed in 1914, 30 meters above the lake Eidsvatnet with a view towards the community of Skjolden. Here he could stay far away from other people and as inaccessible as possible.

1913

Ludwig Wittgenstein rented accommodation from the local postmaster in Skjolden, Mr. Klingenberg. Here he made the first preparations for his work Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. Simultaneously, he designed and planned his own house in Skjolden.
